Created in honour of HM Queen Elizabeth II for her visit to the city of Exeter on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee, 'Evergreen' takes the form of a copper birch tree which stood in front of the wall for years before dying. The artists wanted to explore the link between nature, architecture and the public space. The sculpture is like an imprint, as if the shadow of the tree had burned itself into the wall as a fossil, exploring themes of memory, time and duration.
