Miss Evelyn Maud Lovely (1894–1975) was born in Devon and trained at St Thomas's (1918–1922). She was also a registered midwife and a specialist children's nurse. Her father, Dr Charles Newton Lovely, was a physician in Exeter, who had also trained at St Thomas's and was a campaigner for better housing. Evelyn Lovely was based in Exeter in the 1930s but was working in St Thomas's by 1940 and was a sister.

In this half-length portrait Lovely is depicted in her uniform with a bow under her chin. The background looks like Westminster bridge and hospital.
