A head and shoulders portrait of Edward Howard, turned three-quarters to right, facing, gazing at spectator, wearing Cardinal’s robes with gold pectoral cross; background of flowered wallpaper. He was the brother-in-law of Richard Myddelton Biddulph (1837–1913). He was an officer in the Life Guards before he became priest in 1854; Cardinal-Bishop of Frascati from 1877.
