Ecce Homo were supposedly the Latin words used by Pontius Pilate when he presented Jesus Christ, bound and crowned with thorns, to a hostile crowd shortly before his crucifixion. Luis de Morales was an artist who generally painted representations of the head of Christ, usually crowned with thorns and finished with great care and attention to detail. Although Thomas Kay thought this painting was created by Morales himself, recent research has proved otherwise and now it is thought to be created by a follower of Morales.
