A larger-than-life-size statue of Earl Charles standing on a tall, corniced square pedestal atop a tall flutted Roman Doric column. The inscription on the north side commemorates the centenary of the passing of the 1832 Reform Bill. The addition of a low platform at the base in the 1970s meant that the monument became Newcastle's main meeting place and speaker's corner.
