Rural farmyard scene of domestic birds before a hen house. Two pigeons are visible in the top left corner, on top of a wooden ladder, looking down towards a pheasant perching on the ladder. A pair of roosting birds can be seen in a basket on the far left, and two smaller birds – one with feathered feet – standing at the foot of the ladder. A black and white rabbit sits close by, and a turkey perches in the centre, beneath a small bird on the roof of the hen house. A cockerel and a hen are visible on the far right of the scene, and the figure of a man in the background, looking towards the viewer, but partly obscured by the hen house.
