Ar hyd ei oes, crwydrodd Richard Robert Jones (1780–1843) rhwng ei gartref yn Aberdaron a Lerpwl, lle ddaeth yn gymeriad cyfarwydd ar y strydoedd. Er gwaethaf ei ddillad carpiog a budr, roedd ganddo allu anarferol i gyfieithu rhwng hyd at ddwsin o ieithoedd, yn ôl rhai adroddiadau. Ysgrifennodd William Roscoe ddadansoddiad o alluoedd anarferol ‘Dic Aberdaron’, ac fe gafodd ei bortreadu gan sawl arlunydd. Cynhyrchodd Roos o leiaf pedwar portread ohono, er nad yw’n glir p’un o’r darluniau sy wedi goroesi yw’r fersiwn gynharaf. Yn ystod oes yr arlunydd ei hun, roedd y portread gwreiddiol ym meddiant un ‘Mr George, Dinbych’. Richard Robert Jones (1780–1843) spent his life wandering between his home at Aberdaron and Liverpool, where he became a familiar figure on the streets.
