The painting requires cleaning and extensive professional conservation which would reveal much of the detail which is currently obscured. The subject of the painting has been identified as the 'Death of Cleopatra' and the scale and the subject matter of the painting is entirely suited to the baronial aspirations of the castle’s owner. The painting is unsigned but has been attributed to Andrea Casali, an Italian painter of mythological and historical themes.
