A group of three artists founded Bank in 1991: Simon Bedwell (b.1963), John Russell (b.1963) and Milly Thompson (b.1964). The artists produced individual works but the most popular achievements were gained by the three as a group – they ran a gallery called Poo Poo until 1999, before focusing on the organization of shows designed for other venues. Bank published a satirical magazine and organized exhibitions including artists who became Turner Prize nominees and winners, such as Chris Ofili, Jake & Dinos Chapman and Martin Creed. Their practice was focused on the result of their activities as a group, opposed to individual art practices, and was involved in much unconventional collaboration with other artists and spaces. In 2002 Bank won a prize at the John Moores Liverpool exhibition.
