This panel was made as a trial for the 'Damson Tree' window, which fills the tracery lights of the central window in the north arcade of the Cloister at Canterbury Cathedral. The window was commissioned to recognise the commitment made to Canterbury Cathedral by Richard Oldfield, a trustee of the Canterbury Cathedral Trust. It is one of three windows in the Cloister bays which recognise the support of individuals associated with the Cathedral. The window was designed by Hughie O'Donoghue, RA, and made by Grace Ayson at The Cathedral Studios, Canterbury. The motif, a damson tree, was suggested by the artist after visiting the dedicand's garden and learning that he made jam from the damsons grown on the tree each year.
