inscriptions of 500 contributors, who each paid £25 towards cost of sculpture displayed on granite panels around the base of sculpture: HETTON MINING HERITAGE STATUE / REMEMBER WHERE WE CAME FROM. LIFE WAS VERY HARD FOR THIS YOUNG CHILD / SENT OFF BY HIS FATHER FOR HIS FIRST SHIFT AT THE PIT / THIS STATUES IS A TRIBUTE AND REMINDER OF THE HARD LIFE AND SACRIFICE OF ALL THE MEN, WOMEN / AND CHILDREN WHO BUILT OUR COAL MINING COMMUNITY.
