Artwork and design was integral to the environmental improvement scheme for the conservation area of Crawley's historic High Street, commissioned by Crawley Borough Council. The directional diamond pattern of this paving which runs the length of the pedestrianised high street, is based on a vintage car tyre tread. Crawley is the halfway stop for the annual London to Brighton veterans car rally. Kate Maddison worked closely with the council's engineers to incorporate artwork into a range of street furniture and Chrysalis Arts led community consultation and creative workshops to develop the themes and ideas.
