Lanyon’s paintings of the early '50s are closely linked by the artist’s trains of thought and personal experiences. From 1950 his painting style became more abstract and loose. The Cornish landscape featured prominently with frequent references to weather and sky – viewpoints partly inspired by his gliding activities. Tragically, Lanyon died as a result of a gliding accident in 1964.
