A bronze figure symbolises peace and is set in a black marble niche in the exterior wall of the Town Hall. The inscription from Horace translates as 'I shall not wholly die'. The Second World War commemoration was added in 1962. On Remembrance Day in 2009, black marble tablets with names of the fallen from both wars were added to either side of the statue. They were planned in 1931 but not executed. There is also a memorial peal of fixed bells and hammers in the Town Hall clock tower.
