Eleven stainless steel panels (nine oval and pictorial; two rectangular and textual) hung along the tunnel wall. Subjects include features of local waterway and railway history, and wildlife and agriculture. Industrial activity is represented by the coal-mine, railway, canal, and long-boat, farming by wheat and grain sacks, while depictions of local flora and fauna include the waterlily, bulrush, butterfly, dragonfly, duck, and kingfisher. Textual panels at either end combine conventional acknowledgement of individuals and organisations involved in the commission with the names of animals, plants, industrial products, urban features, and human activities associated with the surrounding landscape.
