Charles Wesley is shown seated on a giltwood chair and leaning on a harpsichord. Fashionably dressed as a young gentleman-around-town, he wears a short wig and a pink double-breasted coat with green lining and large buttons, caught open by the top button. His green breeches are trimmed with four gold buttons and braid, and he wears a matching coat beneath the topcoat, and white hose and buckled shoes. The lace sleeves of his shirt appear below the cuffs, and he wears an expensive leather glove on his left hand, with which he holds its pair. In his right hand he holds a hat (black with gold trim, difficult to discern). The musical score on the keyboard is open at 'I know that my Redeemer Liveth' from 'The Messiah' by George Frideric Handel; it says 'Part the Third' and the words are just visible on the lower edge.
