This monument is located in the Peacock Room of King Charles Court, which was from the 1820s the Greenwich in-Pensioners' Library and subsequently that of the Royal Naval College until it moved out in 1998. The 'Dibdin monument (or 'testimonial')' as bust, weeping Muse figure and plinth were originally called, was funded by public subscription but without a home identified for it in advance. It was accepted by the Board of Greenwich Hospital in 1829 for the recently instituted Pensioners' Library.
