This painting commemorates the first of Jaguar's five wins at Le Mans in the 1950s. The car depicted here is a Jaguar C-type driven to victory at Le Mans in 1951 by the drivers Peter Whitehead and Ken Walker. This painting was presented to William Lyons by the Esso Petroleum Co. as an appreciation of his invaluable contribution to the prestige of British automotive engineering.
