An animal study situated in a shed or barn. In the centre of the picture are three dogs. On the left, a Jack Russell, white with a black spot on its back, stretches up with one paw on a stone ledge. On it is a large overturned earthenware pot, in which some plants have been growing. It now forms a hive for some bees, several of which crawl on the ledge. A second Jack Russell dog, in the centre, sniffs at the bees. Both dogs wear collars. Beneath the ledge is a small brown long-haired mongrel dog, who sniffs at a bee on the ground. In the bottom left corner is an overturned wooden pail. On the right, disappearing behind a corner, is a white dog, being closely pursued by a bee.
