This is one of a series of sculptures based on Mills's artist 'heroes'. Other works were based on Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Orson Welles and William Blake. The sculpture reflects the artist's recollections of Keaton as he appeared in the film 'The General'. The flattened form is almost two-dimensional, to suggest the cinematic idiom. It was officially unveiled at the opening of the MGM cinema in Harlow in June 1996 to celebrate one hundred years of British Cinema.
