It is accepted as authentic by H. Havard Arnason, ‘The Sculpture of Houdon’, London, 1975, p.42 – ‘another bust of the same child (the daughter of the painter Hubert Robert) in The Bowes Museum…includes across the back the signature and date: A HOUDON, F.AN.1777, in a form so characteristic of the artist in this period as to be unquestionably authentic’.
The bust was exhibited at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles in the exhibition ‘Jean-Antoine Houdon’, 2003–2004.
