The Buddha is depicted in a typical Burmese way, seated in the lotus position, padmāsana, with his right hand in the posture of bhūmisparśa mudrā, the gesture of enlightenment. His left hand is held in the lap with the palm upwards in the posture of meditation, dhyāna mudrā. His robe is shown covering his left shoulder with a lightly decorated edge hanging down the torso, while the right shoulder is left bare. This is the southern style of wearing the robe, known throughout Burma and inherited from the practice of ancient Sri Lanka and Southern India.
