The memorial depicts a cavalry officer on horseback, bare-headed, with his helmet and sword on the horse's saddle atop a tall rectangular-based plinth. The Horner family's coat of arms is carved into the front. The original wooden cross which marked the grave of Edward Horner in France, is set into the end of the base. It was originally installed in the Horner family chapel in St Andrew's Church in 1920 and moved to its present location in the church in 2007.
