An ashlar battered, tapering cenotaph on a plinth of steps with slate names panels inset on east and north elevations. The cenotaph is plain, apart from a cross at the top of each of the short sides. The two longest sides each have three long panels of First World War names at the top and two panels of Second World War names at the bottom. These are black with white inscriptions engraved in slate and painted. One of the short sides has a single long panel with First World War names and a single panel with Second World War names below. The other short side has the dedication. It is on a four-stepped base with a metal fence around the memorial with a locked gate. The dedication is Bonhill Parish, but it is also referred to as the Vale of Leven War Memorial and now tends to just be called Alexandria War Memorial.
