Around the pillar on its north side in white painted lettering: ERECTED BY THE INHABITANTS / OF USK AND DISTRICT / TO THE MEMORY OF; and, lower down: UNVEILED BY JAMES HENRY CLARK, THE LAST / PORTREEVE AND NOW OLDEST INHABITANT OF USK. / 1ST JANUARY 1908.
