Chowns is responding to the fact that many women also fought. The artist dedicated the painting to the ‘Macdonald family at An Comhnardan’ (a township of Braes) and presented it to the poet Sorley Maclean and Dr Angus MacDonald in Braes where they both lived in 1996.
