A relief bust of Baron Spolasco a medical doctor who claimed he was a 'first rate scientific surgical operator', while fraudulently practising as a physician and surgeon. He was tried for manslaughter in the 1800s after the death of a young woman who visited him in Bridgend, and he was also mentioned in an inquest of a man who died of kidney disease following a consultation. He was one of only 14 survivors of the wreck of the 'Killarney', which set off from Cork on 19th January, 1838, with 37 people and 600 pigs on board and crashed on the shores, leaving the baron's son among those who perished. Above the relief bust is a relief of the Masonic symbol. Six additional square panels bear a poem about Spolasco.
