This painting is by an unknown artist from Japan. Scroll painting, kakemono, depicting a figure, Bakui Kannon, or the white-robed Avalokitesvara, with a seated image of Amida in the headdress, unusually riding a lotus petal in the style of Bodhidharma crossing the Yangtze on a reed. He or she is wearing a crown and a robe with two ornamental chains hanging from the waist and a necklace. His or her aura in the background. Inscription and seal bottom left. Painting on cloth is framed by panels of brocade, with gold thread brocade strip at the top and bottom of the picture. Wooden bar for hanging the scroll at the top, from which two straps hang. Cord attached to two rings above the bar. Cylindrical bar below scroll for winding it up and for weight.
