Possibly from an unknown Italian sculptural workshop. White Carrara marble statue of a female Bacchante with a tambourine. She is portrayed in classical dress with an animal skin tunic with the fur on the inside which is tied across the waist, and she is wearing sandals. Her right leg is raised and elevated from the ground in a dancing pose. Her head is tilted to her right and her untied hair is decorated with a vine garland with leaves and grapes. In front of her, she holds with her left hand a tambourine with four bells, which she is beating with her right hand. The sculpture is supported by a large tree stump to the back of her left leg. Raised on an English Ketton, or possibly Silsoe, stone pedestal. The statue dates to the late 19th century.
