Possibly from an unknown Italian sculptural workshop. White Carrara marble statue of a dancing female bacchante. She is wearing an animal skin tunic with fur on the inside which is tied with a bow at her waist. The skin hangs down on her right side, exposing her breast, and with her right hand, she clasps a fold out and away from her leg. Her left arm is raised holding a bunch of grapes which are now very weathered. Her hair is tied back in a bun and she wears a garland of vine leaves in her hair. Her right leg is set forward, supported by a large tree stump to the back, and her left leg set back. Between her feet, two cymbals have been discarded. Raised on an English Ketton, or possibly Silsoe, stone pedestal. The statue was made in the late 19th century.
