A cotton handkerchief made by Blantyre Cotton Works displaying the words to the popular Robert Burns song 'Auld Lang Syne' which was dyed using Turkey red dye. Turkey red was made using extracts from the root of the rubia plant. At peak production, the mill owners claimed that 200 handkerchiefs were produced every 10 minutes. It was one of the first mills in Scotland to produce this red dye.
