Folding fan, the tinted mother of pearl sticks skillfully worked into Art Nouveau style feather motifs by renowned fan stick maker (in French, tabletier) Georges Bastard. The silk leaf is painted with an imaginary portrait of a richly adorned female figure against a background of peacock feather motifs.

Bastard’s biography is well-documented; he was born in Andeville, France and his family had been in the same line of artisanal craftwork for several generations.
