Florence Boot, Lady Trent, was the widow of Jessie Boot, the founder of the famous British chain of chemists and Lalique was one of her neighbours in the south of France. She commissioned him to create a memorial to her late husband in the form of glass fittings and fixtures in St Matthew's Church opposite her then residence, Villa Millbrook. In addition to the Art Deco angels, he also created a number of opalescent panels, an altar cross, a glass font, and the Jersey lily motif.
