A portrait presented to Alderman Thompson in recognition of over thirty years of public service, on behalf of the ratepayers of the town. It was presented to him in a ceremony at the Town Hall in February of 1915, in which he in turn presented the portrait to the Borough to be hung in the Town Hall. The portrait is also said to have been included in the previous annual autumn exhibition at the Walker Gallery (1914).

Thompson is sitting in the same chair in Morrison's studio as other dignitaries whose portraits by the artist are on Art UK.
