Joseph Hermon Cawthra
1886–1971
Monumental sculptor, draughtsman and teacher, born Joseph Hermon Cawthra in Baildon, Yorkshire. From the ages of 14–21 he was apprenticed to a monumental mason, but studied in the evenings from 1904 at Saltaire Art School and in 1907–9 at Leeds School of Art.
