Derek Ashby
1926–2018
Painter, sculptor in steel and teacher, born in Chadderton, Lancashire. He studied at Edinburgh College of Art, 1948–51, teachers including William Gillies and Robert Henderson Blyth, then at Royal Academy Schools, 1953–6, with Henry Rushbury and Peter Greenham.
