A large-format gestural work. The artist's informed sense of colour creates a sense that Gill was perhaps experimenting or imitating the techniques seen in Abstract Expressionists of the post-war period. It is sometimes easy to forget that Gill was an exhibiting artist, showing her works alongside those of her peers in the East End Academies held annually between 1932 and 1947 in the Whitechapel Gallery and also, notably Gill was included in a selling exhibition to raise funds for Soviet Aid, hosted by the Churchills at the Wallace Collection's Hertford House.
