Aaron was the elder brother of Moses, the leader of the Hebrews. The Old Testament of the Bible tells how Aaron and Moses were sent by God to ask permission from the Pharaoh for the Israelites to leave Egypt. Aaron threw down his rod which turned into a serpent. The Pharaoh’s sorcerers did the same and their rods also became serpents, but Aaron’s serpent devoured theirs, as a sign of God’s power.
