In 1950 this painting was bequeathed to Campbeltown with another William McTaggart painting, 'When the Kye Comes Hame', by McTaggart's daughter, Lady Annie Caw. It was painted in 1897 during William's frequent return trips to his homeland of Kintyre, and would have been a familiar sight to him. The stature of the artist and the location of the subject combine to make this painting one of the best-loved, and probably the most significant, of the fine art works held by Campbeltown Museum.
