Terrick Williams believed in painting outdoors, choosing to portray boats, harbour scenes, beaches and local people. He took inspiration from Brittany and the Cornish coast and travelled widely in Europe. He portrayed the fleeting effects of light and shade. As president of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour he is remembered for gaining equal rights and full membership for women painters.
