This large-scale work depicts a full-length portrait of a woman in ornate clothing with hands to her torso. The face might be seen as slightly sad. There are shaded areas on the eyes and lips, which might be interpreted as make-up. The closely drawn lines on the clothing imply fur or taffeta dress and a decorative headdress. The patterning behind the figure are the chequerboard surfaces and a window seen in other Gill's drawings but in this drawing, more than others, seem to form an actual room with decorative wallpaper, skirting board and tiled floor. With this more realistic ‘room’ around the figure, one focuses more on the headdress and pattern radiating from above, which seems like an aura or air.
