Painter, collagist, teacher and writer, born in Birmenstorf, Switzerland, who studied at the Schule für Gestaltung, Lucerne, 1960–5. Benno-Kalioff Zehnder was head of postgraduate graphics at Birmingham Polytechnic, 1970–3, then of the visual communications department at Bath Academy of Art. Zehnder participated in a number of group shows in Switzerland during the 1970s and in the Serpentine Summer Show 1, Serpentine Gallery, in 1989. Among his solo exhibitions were Cambridge Dairy, London, 1970; Gluri Suter Hus, Wettingen, Switzerland, and Burleighfield House, Loudwater, both 1974; Bristol City Art Gallery, 1976; and Festival Gallery, Bath, 1977 and 1980. By then, Kunsthaus Aarau, Switzerland; Burleighfield Trust; and the town of Wettingen, Aarau, were public collections holding his work.
