Painter, draughtsman, printmaker and teacher, born in Carlisle, Cumberland. She did a foundation year at the local College of Art, then graduated from Newcastle upon Tyne University with an honours degree in fine art in 1966, her teachers including Richard Hamilton, Victor Pasmore and Eduardo Paolozzi. She gained the Annabella Winship Smiles Travelling Scholarship which she used to study etching at Central School of Art. Teaching experience included West Sussex College of Art, Salford College of Technology and Open University and was an art therapist in a psychiatric hospital. Undertook a residency at Chadderton School, Oldham. Young researched landscape painting in Cumbria and women artists and painted portraits of people in everyday surroundings, landscapes and wildlife subjects.
