Sir Sidney Robert Alexander (1863–1929), Mayor of Faversham (1910–1919) 1911
Frank Wyborn (1876–1950)
Faversham Town Council, Mayor's Parlour and Guildhall
Frank Wyborn was a self-trained painter who is recorded in the 1911 UK Census as living at 14 South Road, Faversham. According to the Canterbury Journal, 29th July 1911, he exhibited a portrait of a W. J. Keech and a painting entitled Nutty Tom from that address. In 1912 Wyborn exhibited at the East Kent Art Society in Canterbury. Although a newspaper article of that year states that he had two works accepted for the Royal Academy exhibition, no record confirms this and none appeared. With an address of 174 Cromwell Road, Whitstable, Kent, Wyborn died on 12th November 1950 while attending a church service at St Alphege, Whitstable. The Daily Mail reported that he collapsed and died while buglers were sounding the ‘Last Post’ at a local Remembrance service.
Wyborn is buried at Faversham Cemetery beside his first wife, Emily Lucy (née Fright, 1878–1905), whom he married at Faversham in 1899. Their son, Alec Albert, was born in late 1905 so it is likely that Emily died from childbirth complications.
