Artist, born in Cheshire, who graduated with honours from Winchester School of Art, 1985–8, gaining his master’s from Slade School of Fine Art, 1997–8. Woods took part in many group exhibitions, later ones including Papermake, Modern Art, 1999; Petty Crimes, Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne, 2000; Effetto Natura, Trusardi Foundation, Milan, Italy, 2001; and Galleries 2002, RA, 2002. Among later solo shows were Greidervonputtkamer, Berlin, Germany, 2001; Deitch Projects, New York, America, 2002; and Victoria & Albert Museum, 2003. In that year, Woods was one of three artists commissioned by Contemporary Projects to make new work for the Venice Biennale, to be sited in the buildings and grounds of the Convento dei Santi Cosma e Damiano on the Giudecca.
