Painter, collagist and teacher, full name John Alan Wood. He was born in Widnes, Lancashire and studied at Liverpool College of Art, 1954–9, then began extensive series of teaching appointments, interspersed with living and working periodically near St Ives in Cornwall and travelling to North America to teach from 1970. Periods as artist-in-residence at University of Cincinnati and teaching at Capilano College, North Vancouver, were included. In addition to extensive group show participations had many one-man exhibitions including New Art Centre; Demarco Gallery, Edinburgh; and University of Cincinnati. Won commissions for a large mural for hall of residence at Leeds University and for government of British Columbia. It holds his work, as do Adelaide and Flinders Universities in Australia, WAC, Tate Gallery and CASW.
