Versatile painter who was born in Leeds, Yorkshire, but was educated partly in France and Germany. Studied at Royal Academy in Antwerp, where he won a silver medal, then in France and Spain. He was elected RBA, also showing at RA, Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and at New Gallery as well as abroad. He was a Chelsea Arts Club member who settled in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, views of the River Thames being a favourite subject.
