Painter, born in Oban, Argyll. Studied art in Glasgow and on the continent. Glasgow Art Gallery and Museum, Kelvingrove, and the New Museum and Art Gallery, Newport, hold his work. His portraits, landscapes and seascapes were exhibited at the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, RSA, RSW and Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. Was a member of Glasgow Art Club. Lived at Oban, Argyll. In 1982, Christie’s in Glasgow held a sale of important Victorian and modern Scottish paintings including 28 from Whyte’s studio. His wife exhibited as Mary B Barnard.
