Sculptor, cartoonist and lecturer who studied at Winchester School of Art, 1973–6, and taught at University of Northumbria, Newcastle upon Tyne. He was also a cartoonist for the New Statesman, Private Eye and The Spectator. Exhibitions included Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle, from 1980; Crafts Council, 1992; and the Spectator annual cartoon show from 1995. Whitmore specialised in the lost-wax method of casting and his bronze Burma Campaign War Memorial, commissioned by Tyneside and District Burma Star Association, is located in Newcastle city centre.
