Portrait painter and teacher, born in Fife, who studied at Edinburgh College of Art and on the continent, then after a period teaching in London was on the staff of Edinburgh College of Art for a decade, also teaching at Fettes College. He was art critic of The Scotsman. Was a member of RP and an associate of RSA, also showing at Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. National Gallery of Scotland holds his portrait of the writer Sir Compton Mackenzie. Lived in Edinburgh but died in Southfleet, Kent.
